I've always been a fan of Mies Van der Rohe's Barcelona Chair (circa 1929.) The chrome legs and tufted leather combine to create a chair that looks good uptown AND downtown in a variety of settings, from ultra modern to fussy traditional.
Lately, however, my desires have been leaning towards Mies' companion piece, the Barcelona Couch. Introduced a year later, in 1930, it offers the same minimal characteristics, but with a more ample surface to kick off your shoes and unwind after a long day. I can already see it covered with the New York Times on a lazy Sunday morning.
